The Airline Transport Pilot License is a prerequisite for acting as a pilot-in-command (Captain) in scheduled airline operations. This is the highest level of license that a pilot can achieve.
Minimum requirements to obtain an Airline Transport Pilot License are:
- Be at least 23 years of age
- Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language fluently
- Be of a good moral character.
- Hold a Commercial Pilot License with an instrument Rating.
- Obtain a first class medical certificate from an Aviation Medical Examiner
- Pass a computerized aeronautical knowledge test
- Accumulate and log a specified amount of training and experience under Part 61, Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) section 61.159.
- Pass an oral test and flight test administered by an FAA inspector or designated examiner
The minimum required time for the Airline Transport Pilot License is 1500 Hours under CFR 14 Part 61.
